Butterfly Park, Sea life Aquarium get lukewarm response

Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) planned Butterfly Park and Sea Life Aquarium first of its kind in the country could not be built for years because of sheer apathy of the private investors and entrepreneurs .
CDA, a watchdog for urbanization has again invited the tender in different newspapers on Wednesday for the second time when first one that published two years back could not bring and respond from the investors .
Establishment of the Butterfly Park and Sea Life Aquarium beside the newly built -up city's Patenga area is a vital component of the recreational facility that incorporated in the detailed master plan of CDA alike parking and housing.

Chief Executive of city corporation arrested

Chief Executive Officer of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Imtiaj Hossain Chowdhury was arrested on Wednesday from his residence and subsequently sent to jail on charge of corruption.
A team of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) led by its Chittagong wing head Major Julfikar Ali Mojumdar in association with joint forces arrested after raiding the residence of Imtiaj in the morning.

A shortage of drinking water was turning out to be one of the most critical factors in keeping survivors alive. Tidal surges, some up to 5 metres high, inundated coastal areas with salt water, contaminating surface drinking water supplies.

Commonwealth calls for supporting relief program

Holding out Commonwealth assistance, its Secretary General Don McKinnon made a call for support to the relief and recovery efforts of specialized relief agencies and Bangladesh Government in the aftermath of a devastating cyclone.
"We also encourage those who wish to support and contribute to the relief and recovery to do so generously through the coordinated efforts of specialized relief agencies and the Bangladesh Government," Don McKinnon said in a media statement issued Saturday on the devastating cyclone in Bangladesh. He noted that the devastation came at a time when Commonwealth Heads of Government are scheduled to meet in Uganda, which itself is experiencing heavy flooding in Kampala with loss of life.

Benazir yet to decide if polls be spurned

Opposition parties wavered Wednesday on whether to boycott crucial Pakistani elections, backing off their most strident calls to shun the vote unless President Gen. Pervez Musharraf ends his state of emergency.
The government continued to roll back a wave of repression, freeing several hundred more opponents across the country, as the president returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia to discuss the future of an exiled rival, Nawaz Sharif. At home, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto deferred a decision on whether to spurn the election, which she has said cannot be legitimate if the emergency continues. Since seizing extraordinary powers on Nov. 3, Musharraf has neutered the Supreme Court, muzzled the media by taking several private news channels off the air, and thrown thousands in jail.
