CU journalism deptt MA exams to be held on schedule

Sincere and immediate efforts taken by Arts faculty dean and teachers of communication and journalism department in Chittagong University finally rescued the MA examinees (2003-2004) of the department from uncertainty over examination schedule. Earlier, Chairperson of the department Abdur Razzak Khan postponed the MA final examination on Thursday which was scheduled to be held from today (Saturday).
First batch of Mayor Hajj kafela leaves Ctg

The first batch of 277 hajj pilgrims under the auspices of Mayor Hajj Kafela left Chittagong for Jeddah on Saturday. Acting Mayor of Chittagong city Corporation Alhaj Manzurul Alam saw them off at Jamiutul Falah Complex. Special prayers seeking safe journey and sound health of the pilgrims were also offered on the eve of their departure.

India waives ban on 500,000 tons rice export to Bangladesh

India has decided to waive the ban on export of rice to Bangladesh for additional 500,000 tons, the quantity sought by the Bangladesh government from donors on Tuesday for ensuring the country's food security.
India will also propose to the Bangladesh government its willingness to 10 severely affected coastal villages for rehabilitation, Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said on arrival at the Zia International Airport on a daylong visit for a first-hand assessment of the devastation caused by cyclone Sidr.
Relief activities in high gear

Bangladesh and American relief efforts in support of Cyclone Sidr victims are in high gear and succeeding on a number of fronts, said the US marine commander leading his force in the humanitarian mission.
"This relief effort is running on all eight cylinders," said Brig Gen Ronald Bailey, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB) commanding general.
The 3rd MEB is leading military efforts in support of a larger United States response to aid victims of the Nov 15 cyclone that killed nearly 3,300 people by the latest count.

Benazir launches polls campaign

Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto arrived in northwestern Pakistan on Saturday to launch her election campaign, a day after unveiling her party's platform despite calls from other opposition groups to boycott the Jan. 8 vote. Bhutto traveled in a bulletproof black Mercedes under police escort from the capital, Islamabad, to Peshawar where she appealed for support from ethnic Pashtuns who predominate in the volatile border region assailed by Islamic militancy. She was greeted by hundreds of flag-waving supporters of her Pakistan People's Party who chanted "Long Live Benazir!" "I ask our Pashtun brothers to come forward for peace. They have supported the Pakistan People's Party in the past and once again they must support the Pakistan People's Party," she said. "The Pakistan People's Party will give them security, peace and employment and will bring development to their areas so their problems can be solved."
