
HC affirms bail in two cases ACC sues Mohiuddin, wife on illegal wealth charges

Chittagong city mayor is apparently plagued with cases of corruption, concealing of wealth and other charges that blocks his bail from the imprisonment.
The High Court Sunday on Sunday though affirmed bail to detained Chittagong City Corporation Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury in two corruption cases but he and his wife have again been sued for concealing fact in submission of wealth statement.
Three Ctg WASA officials get 15 years jail term

A Chittagong court here on Sunday sentenced three high officials of Chittagong WASA and a contractor to 15 years' imprisonment in a graft case. However, the court acquitted another accused, WASA Chief Engineer Shafiqul Islam, of the allegations brought against him could not be proved.
Divisional Special Judge SM Solaiman, after examining records and prosecution witnesses, awarded them 15 years' jail term under three sections of CrPC -- five years each under the every section.
Unabated mugging causes panic to traders in city

Muggers after a lapse of five days of the snatching of TK 8.26 lakh from Opsonin pharmaceuticals ltd again looted TK 3.76 lakhs from a trader in the city's Oxygen Rail gate area under Baizeed Bostami thana on broad daylight on Sunday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses and police said Kamal Mia (40), a local trader was robbed off while going to Fouji Flour Mill with a money laden satchel from his Pahartali residence at Chal bazar area by a CNG auto rickshaw at 11.30 am.
Tragic road mishap kills two, hurt one at Baroaulia

Two persons were killed and one was seriously wounded in a road accident at Baroalia area near Bangladesh Military Academy under Sitakunda Upzilla on Sunday morning.
The ill-fated victims could not be identified immediately while the wounded was identified as Mohammed Idris , hailed from Noakhali.

Dialogue with Bikalpa Dhara held: All but CHT constituencies to be realigned: CEC

Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh at their dialogue on electoral reforms with the Election Commission Sunday proposed to increase the Jatiya Sangsad seats from 300 to 400 introducing proportional representation system in parliament.
The BDB also suggested that the EC should not allow war criminals and anti-liberation individuals identified by court to contest elections.
“Representatives (in those additional 100 seats) will be selected based on the proportion of the parties’ acquired votes in the national elections,” reads a BDB proposal tabled before the EC.
HC orders govt to form civil vacation court in dists

When the judges of civil courts at district level enjoy a month-long annual vacation from December 1, the High Court Sunday ordered the government to constitute civil vacation court in each district for disposing of urgent cases.
The HC judgment directed the Law Secretary to take step towards constitution of civil vacation bench with the joint district judge who would dispose of urgent civil matters during vacation.
431 officers-employees of Sylhet City Corporation sacked

The caretaker government ordered that 431 officers and employees of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) be sacked on grounds that they were appointed “illegally”.
An official announcement said here Sunday, “The their termination decision was taken as allegations of irregularities in their appointment were proved following an investigation conducted by Sylhet Divisional Commissioner.”

40 Taliban killed Afghanistan

Afghan and foreign troops battled with Taliban militants and called in airstrikes in a series of clashes in the country's south that left 40 insurgents dead, an official said Sunday.
The joint force clashed with militants in the mountainous Shah Wali Kot district in Kandahar province during a three-day operation that ended Saturday and left 35 insurgents dead, said provincial police chief Sayed Agha Saqib.
