

Mohiuddin shifted to Ctg jail To be produced in court today

Chittagong city mayor A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury has been brought to Chittagong jail on Monday afternoon to produce before the court in a graft case to be heard on Tuesday.
The mayor was brought to Chittagong jail at around 5:00 pm from Dhaka amidst stringent security.
This is the first time he is to
produce before the Chittagong court after his arrest .
The charge framing for Bijoy TV graft case will be now held on December 4 as Mohiuddin Chowdhury could not be produced on November 29, the date fixed earlier .
The Anti-Corruption Commission here on Thursday submitted charge sheet against detained Chittagong Mayor A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury and three other high city corporation officials in a graft case.
Deputy Director of the ACC Abul Kalam Azad submitted the charge sheet before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Helal Chowdhury accusing mayor of Chittagong ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and two senior officials of the City Corporation for embezzlement of fund.
Mirsarai road mishap kills 3, injures 12

Three persons were killed and 12 others injured in a tragic road accident occurred on Dhaka- Chittagong highway under Mirsari upazila early Monday.
The deceased were identified as bus driver Ruhul Amin (42) , hailed from Jessore district, passenger of the bus Delowar hossain(27) from Keranigonj.

Mugger suspect held

Police on Monday afternoon arrested a suspected mugger in connection with snatching of Tk 3.76 lakh from a local trader in the city's Oxygen area on that took place on Sunday. Acting Mayor opens road dev works
Acting CCC Mayor Alhaj M Monzur Alam yesterday morning initiated the development works of different roads of the district, says a press release.
The roads are Baca Mia Sarak under Saraipara Ward, No 1, 2, Rroads of Halishahar G-Block under Rampur Ward, Kabi Nazrul Islam Road under Alkoron Ward, Roads on both sides of Chamragudam Chaktai
canal and Masterpool Road along Chaktai canal.

US$ 1 bi as cyclone-damage rebuilding cost estimate presented

Bangladesh Monday placed before the international community a rough estimate of fund requirements amounting to one billion US dollars for rebuilding the cyclone-devastated infrastructures and livelihoods.
Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed presented the estimate in a meeting with the Ambassadors and High Commissioners of different countries and representatives from donor agencies at the CA’s office, as the country is now engrossed in rebuilding the cyclone-hit coastal localities.
Verdict in case against six RU teachers tomorrow
Rajshahi, Dec 3 (UNB) - Verdict in the case facing six detained teachers of Rajshahi University for the violation of Emergency Power Rules 2007 will be delivered Tuesday.
Judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Ruhul Amin will deliver judgment in the case involving the RU campus flare-up in backlash against the Dhaka University troubles over an incident between students and some army personnel.
The accused teachers are former RU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Saidur Rahman Khan, Prof Dr Abdus Sobhan of Applied Physics and Electronics Department, Associate Prof Moloy Kumar Bhowmik, chairman of Management Department, and Assistant Professors of Mass Communication Department Selim Raza Newton, Dulal Chandra Biswas and Abdullah Al Mamun.
Dubai-based org wants to import manpower from Bangladesh
Dhaka, Dec 3 (UNB) - Emirates Trading Agency, a Dubai-based organisation, is interested to import manpower, including civil and electrical engineers, designers, cleaners, electricians and housemaids, from Bangladesh.
The organisation also wants take 50 orphans from Bangladesh at their own cost and provide them with suitable jobs in the Middle East countries.
The proposals were made when a trade delegation of Emirates Trading Agency, led by its Executive Director M Akbar Khan, met Industries Adviser Geete Ara Safiya Chouhdury at her office Monday.

41 rebels, six soldiers killed in SriLanka

Government troops and Tamil Tiger rebels battled each other with rifles, mortars and artillery across northern Sri Lanka on Monday, in fighting that killed 41 rebels and six soldiers, the military said.
In the worst violence, in the Mannar district just south of rebel-held territory, guerrilla fighters attacked soldiers in an offensive aimed at recapturing land the military seized over the weekend, military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said.
The military repelled the attack in a battle that left 35 rebels and six soldiers dead, he said. Also on Monday, soldiers killed four guerrillas in a pre-dawn clash in the northern Jaffna peninsula, Nanayakkara said. Troops suffered no casualties.
Benazir warns of foreign intervention

Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto promised to use both economic and military means to defuse Pakistan's pro-Taliban insurgency, warning that "foreign forces" could invade unless the government halts spreading militancy.
