33 Rohingyas held : Trafficking bid failed

In a bid to reported trafficking to Malaysia by marine ways a group of 33 Rohingyas was rounded up by Cox’s Bazar police yesterday. It is learnt these Rohingyas were assembled in a hotel of Cox’s Bazar aimed at trafficking them to Malaysia by an influential group. Police sources said Rohingyas staying at Kutupalang camp of Ukhia are the main trafficking brokers to collect intending Malaysia-going persons from Myanmar areas and assemble them in and around Cox’s Bazar. Reliable source said an influential syndicate comprising unscrupulous manpower agent at Bangaladesh, Myanmar and Malaysia built up.
Price hike hits hard commoners in Ctg

Fixed and low-income consumers in the port city and its outskirts are facing enormous difficulties due to nonstop hiking of prices of essentials. During the recent visits at different kitchen markets of the port city including Meena Bazaar, Kazir Dewri and Karnaphuli Complex, this correspondent found that prices of most essentials and vegetables had been out of the commoner's reach. Only few winter vegetables are being sold in affordable prices. Ordinary consumers claimed that they had lost total ability to bear the daily spending comparing to their income, price hike made the situation even heavier. They expressed concern over the price spiral and said that they would have to survive on one meal a day instead of two unless the income was enhanced considerably.
VoIP equipments seized in City

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a surprise drive seized huge VOIP (voice over internet protocol) equipments from a residence at CDA residential area under Double-mooring police station in the city hours before dawn on Sunday. The RAB personnel said that they conducted a raid at the residence located at road number 22.

A seminar on ‘Separation of Judiciary & Human Rights’ will be held today at the auditorium of Social Science faculty in Chittagong University (CU). Law Faculty of Chittagong University will host the seminar in observance of the International Human Rights Day. Constitution expert and eminent lawyer Dr. Kamal Hossain will join the seminar as key discussant while Assistant Professor of Law Department ABM Abu Noman will present keynote paper in the seminar which has been titled ‘Separation of Judiciary & Human Rights’.

Attack on police outpost in Pakistan's Swat valley kills 9

Nine people were killed, including two children, when a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden car into a police outpost Sunday in Pakistan's Swat valley, the site of an ongoing military operation against Islamic militants loyal to a fugitive cleric. The dead from the 12:35 p.m. (0735 GMT) attack also included the bomber, three civilians and three policemen at the Nimgole post near Imam Dheri, the headquarters of pro-Taliban cleric Maulana Fazlullah, said chief military spokesman Maj. Gen. Arshad Waheed.
