
Chittagong Ethnological Museum in shamble, yet to turn full fledged

After a passage of three decades Chittagong Ethnological Museum, second of its kind in Asia after Japan is now limping in its own usual way.
“The museum is yet to be elevated into a full –pledged one as no comprehensive scheme was hitherto undertaken to collect objects and antiquities of varied ethnic communities from homeland as well as other Asian countries since its inception”, anthropologists alleged.
.“No research and investigations have carried out for collection, preservation and exhibition of the tribal culture in recognition to the artistic or historic importance” they said
“We the students of anthropology hardly visit the museum, as there is nothing new and helpful for us , said Sahed, a 3rd year student of anthropology Department of Chittagong University.

Light of land snuffs out

Mahbub-ul-Alam civic condolence preparatory Parishad in a joint statement issued on Monday said that people of Chittagong were greatly shocked at the demise of language movement hero and a foremost guardian of pro-people and progressive movements.
They in the condolence message said that Mahbub-ul-Alam was not only a brilliant son of Chittagong but also a proud of Bangladesh. He was the only man who had chosen poem as a tool of protest in the language movement when Pakistani forces made capital city Dhaka into a place of bloodshed on 21st February 1952.
BBA accords reception to eight Buddhist personalities

The century old BBA accords the reception to eight personalities for their outstanding contributions in socio religious development.

One killed 5 hurt in road mishap at Sitakund

An unidentified person was killed and five others suffered wounds in a head-on collision between a truck and maxi at Kumira area in Sitakund Upazila on Monday morning.
Police said that all the passengers those are injured and killed, were the passengers of the maxi. The accident took place at about 6:15 a.m. when a cargo-laden truck collided with maxi.

Education Adviser Ayub Quadri takes responsibility for missing statues

Education and Cultural Affairs Adviser Ayub Quadri Monday said he takes the responsibility for the missing of two rare terracotta statues of god Bishnu from Zia International Airport on their way to Paris on Friday.
“I don’t know how far my personal failure is there but as an Adviser of the Cultural Affairs Ministry I’ll have to take the responsibility for the missing of the statues,” he said responding to reporters’
queries at his ministry, UNB reports from Dhaka.
India seizes four Vishnu statues

Indian customs officials seized four Vishnu statues from a van on the border with Nepal, officials said Sunday, as Bangladesh government opened an investigation into the theft of two images of the Hindu god.
No arrests were made.
The development coincided with the theft of two Vishnu statues from Zia International Airport in Dhaka, which were up for shipment to Paris for display at the Guimet Museum. One of the two terracotta images was a bust of Vishnu, bdnews24.com reports from Dhaka.
Authorities did not find immediate links between the two incidents.
CPCs at Upazila, dst- level begin work in two months

All the corruption prevention committees, CPC formed at the district and upazila levels across the country as part of a move of the Anti-Corruption Commission to carry out a campaign
against the vice, are expected to begin works within the next two months.
The committees, having 10 members for the district-level one and six for the upazila-level one, will start works in the districts and upazilas of Rajshai division first, UNB reports from Dhaka.

Nepal's rebels agree to rejoin govt

Nepal's major political parties have agreed to abolish the world's last Hindu monarchy as part of a deal to bring former communist rebels back into the government, the one-time insurgents said Monday.
While no timetable has been set for the communists to rejoin the government, the deal, signed Sunday, set the stage for Nepal's transition to a full republic less than two years after the country's king was forced to cede his near dictatorial powers following weeks of unrest.
The communists, who are known as the Maoists, ended their decade-long rebellion last year and later joined the country's interim government.
