Home.. "When we aretaught everything" |
Nawreen Jahan Rahi
There comes that mysterious meeting in life when someone acknowledges who we are and what we can be, igniting the circuits of our highest potential". Yes ladies and gentlemen, my eight years of a boarding school life has allowed me to agree to this small quotation by Mr. Rusty Berkus.
I remember crying like a maniac on the very first day of my school life when my parents left me at the gate of my hostel...and today I sometimes cry about the thought of fact that very soon I have to leave that very school which I believe to be my "Home Away From Home."

| Explain failure to hold
polls within 90 days |
P View Desk
The High Court Sunday issued rule upon the Election Commission to explain why its inability to hold general
election within 90 days of the dissolution of parliament should not be declared "unlawful".
The High Court also asked the EC to show cause why it should not be directed to hold the stalled general election within a "reasonable period" of time henceforth, UNB reports from Dhaka.
A division bench comprising Justice Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman and Justice Shahidul Islam issued the twin-rule upon a writ petition filed by Masood R Sobhan, a Supreme Court lawyer, as there have been a hail of dilemmas over the polls cancelled last January amid a political crisis.
"Both the rules have been made encountered within four weeks," says the court in its orders. |

| Hasina appeals to HC to
cancel Azam J Chy case
Next hearing of trial set for Jan 30 |
Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina Sunday petitioned the High Court to cancel an extortion case filed by businessman Azam Jahangir Chowdhury against her.
Her lawyers filed the appeal with the bench of justices Khademul Islam Chowdhury and Mohammad Abdul Hye. The appeal argued that there had been no allegation against Hasina either in the case details or charge sheet or in other documents.
Besides, Chowdhury himself had recently said he did not charge the detained former head of government in the case. Chowdhury, chairman of Prime Bank, Thursday told reporters that he did not file any case against Hasina. He also said that he had no idea how Hasina's name surfaced in the case.
"Sheikh Hasina is the daughter of Bangabandhu (independence leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman). She was prime minister of the country. I cannot even think of suing her," Chowdhury said to reporters.
Hasina's younger sister Sheikh Rehana, who lives in England, and their cousin Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim
are the other accused in the case.
Chowdhury said he had filed a case only against Selim for extorting money from him in return for a promised deal.

| Olmert-Abbas meet
to focus on Gaza |
AP/UNB, Jerusalem
Hamas' dramatic breach of the Gaza Strip's border with Egypt will be at the center of a meeting Sunday between Israeli and Palestinian leaders, officials said.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas are to meet at Olmert's residence in Jerusalem for the latest in a series of meetings between the two meant to promote nascent peace talks..JPG)
Talks have been complicated by Hamas' violent takeover of Gaza in June, ongoing militant rocket fire at Israel from Gaza, and the ensuing Israeli blockade that has caused shortages of fuel, electricity and some food supplies in the already impoverished territory. Last Wednesday, Gaza militants demolished most of the border between southern Gaza and neighboring Egypt, breaking the blockade and allowing Palestinians to stock up on supplies in the Egyptian border town of Rafah. The border remained open Sunday for the fifth day, with the acquiescence of Egyptian authorities. Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak told the weekly Cabinet meeting on Sunday that Israel would maintain its policy of supplying Gaza with only humanitarian aid, and would "not allow a humanitarian crisis in Gaza," his office said.
Barak also reported that the Egyptians were "inclined" to reshut their border with Hamas-ruled Gaza, his office said.
