Former Adviser to the Caretaker Government Mahbubul Alam on Saturday laid special emphasis on making the country's ship-breaking a pollution free and labour friendly industry for the economic and environmental interest of the country.
He called upon the authorities concerned to implement the country's existing laws regarding labour and environment for ensuring rights of labourers in ship-breaking industry as well as pollution free healthy environment of the area

The prevailing anarchic situation in transportation sector here in the city still remained unsolved and sufferings of the commuters have virtually been mounting that pushed the fixed income groups into fresh plight.
No government mechanism did work to combat the fast-growing manifold anomalies in the transport sector over the last one year.
Transport owners, soon after the fresh fuel price hike, started charging excessive fare violating government's fixation.
The situation deteriorated further when the transport owners attempted to implement the new fare fixed by the government yesterday without maintaining seat-capacity based system even without ticketing system.
Dozens of untoward incidents took place in and around the city specially Muradpur, EPZ and Bahaddarhat areas in the city yesterday morning.

The road show titled "Let's build Bangladesh" arrives here in Chittagong district today. All stage is set by the district administration to welcome the road show.
The administration has earlier chalked out a three-day program including discussion meeting, debate, essay contest, cultural function, honouring the noble men and distribution of potatoes among the poor.
The road show will be welcomed at Dhumghat Bridge
near Mirsarai Upazila, entry-point of Chittagong district, at about 10:00 a.m. today.
Later, Chittagong district administration will welcome it at city's GEC intersection at about 12:30 p.m.

Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed Saturday asked the members of the President Guard Regiment (PGR) to remain alert during VVIPs' mass contact and their public involvement alongside ensuring their highest security, UNB reports from Dhaka.
"So, every member of this regiment will have to be strong, devoted and responsible on one hand and gentle and sober on the other. Remain active to uphold the reputation and public confidence you have already earned in this regard," he told the PGR personnel and officers

Finance Adviser Dr Mirza Azizul Islam Saturday said it would be unrealistic to expect that the prices of food items,
particularly that of rice, would come down, as less than half of the post-harvest crops have arrived at the market this year, UNB reports from Dhaka.
"What we're considering is to check further rise in the prices," he told a seminar, explaining the government's efforts through measures within and beyond the budget 2008-09.
Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in cooperation with Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) and Oxfam International organised the seminar titled "Price-hike and Poverty Alleviation: Budget 2008-09" at its auditorium

Hafiz urges Delwar

Reformist BNP leader Maj (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Saturday urged secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain to immediately sit for unity talks formally or informally to remove misunderstanding within the party, UNB reports from Dhaka.
"We do the same party. We've some misunderstanding amongst us. A single sitting formally or informally could put an end to all the misunderstanding. Any hurdles on the way to unity will be removed," he told media personnel at his Banani house.
Hafiz however cautioned that the immediate-past ruling party, already troubled by wrangling, would have to get into a difficult situation if the party could not be united. "Disunity at this critical time will not be good for anybody," he said
